July 28 is celebrated every year as World Hepatitis Day. This date was chosen because it is the birthday of Nobel prize-winning scientist Dr. Baruch Blumberg, who discovered the hepatitis B virus (HBV) and developed a diagnostic test and vaccine for the virus.
In 2021, the commemoration of World Hepatitis Day carries the theme “Hepatitis Can’t Wait.”
With this theme, it is hoped that this will be a call for people around the world to take action and raise awareness because Hepatitis Can’t Wait. The speakers at the peak commemoration of World Hepatitis Day 2021 in Indonesia are:

Let’s continue with the direction of the Minister of Health, which are:
- Increase the coverage of early detection of Hepatitis B for pregnant women in all districts/cities and ensure that every baby born is free from Hepatitis B
- Make sure every baby is fully immunized against hep B
- Increase early detection of Hep B and C, especially in at-risk populations and do it in an integrated manner
- Accelerate the expansion of access to Hep C services by using DAA evenly across 34 provinces
- Improve promotive and preventive efforts
- Improve protection of health workers who are at risk of exposure to hep B through early detection and provision of adult hepatitis B immunization
